Key stage 5 and Higher Education

Boardwalk
Guided walks explaining the concepts of succession, the management of Wicken Fen and the importance of Wicken Fen as an area of scientific study.

Fen Flora
Participate in an ongoing study of fen flora in 3 different areas of the fen using random sampling, quadrats and transects. Your data will be collected and used as part of an ongoing survey into the plant species found at Wicken Fen.

Aquatic invertebrates
Students can undertake population studies, investigate species adaptation and food chains.

Terrestrial invertebrates
Students use a variety of trapping techniques to study Wicken Fens invertebrates.

Geography
Looking at the plans for the Wicken Fen vision, its impact on the surrounding areas and its importance in the long term conservation of this unique habitat.

Coursework modules can be designed to study Fen species and landscape please contact the learning officer to discuss possible topics.

Permits may be needed for higher level study of fauna and flora please contact learning officer for more details.

With notice guided walks can be organised with National Trust staff for groups
covering specific areas of interest.
