Come and See the Vision

The National Trust will be holding the last of its current series of Wicken Fen Vision Drop-In Information Meetings in Fen Ditton and Waterbeach on Saturday 23 May 2009.

The Drop-In sessions are part of an on-going community engagement programme by the National Trust to give local residents the opportunity to view and discuss current projects and plans for the Wicken Fen Vision with the Trust's Wicken Fen staff. Similar events have already been held in Wicken, Burwell, Swaffham Prior and Lode during May.

The schedule for the Drop-In Information Meetings this Saturday is:-

bulletFen Ditton Church Hall: 1000-1300
bulletWaterbeach Primary School: 1400-1700

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Wicken Fen Vision is a 100 year project by the National Trust to create a landscape scale nature reserve and green lung for Cambridgeshire and the East of England, covering 53 sq km, from the existing Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve to the outskirts of Cambridge. The Vision will see the re-creation of a mosaic of fenland habitats to help protect and conserve endangered species of wildlife whilst providing a vast area for public access for leisure, relaxation, exercise and education.

Commenting on the Drop-In meetings, Wicken Fen Property Manager, Chris Soans said;

"The Drop-In meetings have provided an excellent opportunity for the Trust to meet and discuss the Vision with local residents. We are greatly encouraged by the level of interest and widespread expressions of support for the Vision."

Notes to Editors
1. Wicken Fen is the National Trust's oldest and most famous Nature Reserve. The Trust originally acquired two acres of land in 1899, today the reserve covers an area of 754 hectares and is home to over 8100 species making it the most species rich nature reserve in the country.
2. The National Trust is Europe's biggest conservation organisation and looks after special places across England, Wales and Northern Ireland for ever, for everyone. People and places are at the heart of everything it does. 3.5 million members, 50,000 volunteers, 500,000 school children, and millions of visitors, donors and supporters help the Trust look after its 300 historic houses and gardens, 700 miles of coastline and 250,000 hectares of open countryside. www.nationaltrust.org.uk.
