Press Release Feed the Birds Day The clocks go back this weekend heralding the start of winter and without our help many of our favourite garden birds will struggle to survive the winter. During the cold dark winter months birds natural food supplies such as insects and grubs are in short supply or hidden by snow and ice. The reduced daylight hours also means there is less time to find food and long cold nights to survive. By regularly providing food for our garden birds we can help them get the extra energy and warmth they need to help them survive. The National Trust is running a Feed the Birds Day at Wicken Fen for children on Tuesday 28th October. This fun activity run by National Trust staff and volunteers will involve making bird feeders and high energy bird food that will have garden birds flocking to your garden this winter in search of a tasty treat. The Wicken team will also pass on tips on how to make our gardens more wildlife friendly by providing habitats that will help garden wildlife such as hedgehogs and insects survive the winter. Feed the Birds activities are being held at Wicken Fen on Tuesday 28th October at 10.30 -12.30 and 14.00-16.00, and cost £4.25. Bookings can be made at the Wicken Fen Visitor Centre or by phone on 01353 720274. <ENDS> Notes to Editors Further Information |
