Press Release

Trainee Warden Tim joins Wicken Team

We are pleased to welcome Tim Fisher who has joined the Wicken Fen team as a trainee Warden under the National Trust's Careership Scheme.

The award winning Careership Scheme is designed to provide a mixture of hands on practical training interspersed with periods of residential training at Reaseheath College in Cheshire, where students learn the science behind ecology and conservation. During their Careership students work towards nationally accredited qualifications, NVQ Levels 2&3 in Environment and Conservation.

As part of his careership Tim will also spend time working at National Trust properties at Orfordness and Dunwich Heath in Suffolk, providing a good grounding in the management of a range of wetland, coastal and heathland habitats.

Tim, 33 from Sutton, Cambridgeshire, who previously worked in the hospitality industry admits to "being overjoyed at being able to turn his passion for nature and the countryside into a career."

Finding employment in conservation can be extremely difficult especially for those without formal qualifications. The aim of the Careership Programme which was established in 1991 is to increase the range of opportunities for those seeking to pursue a rewarding career in conservation management.
