The Lodes Way

The Lodes Way will provide an inspiring new access corridor for sustainable transport for visitors on foot, cycle and horseback. The 14km route will provide a quiet virtually traffic free route connecting Bottisham and Anglesey Abbey in the South to Wicken in the North.

The Lodes Way will also bridge the gap in the existing Sustrans National Cycle Route 11 between Cambridge and Ely, which connects Harlow, via Cambridge and Ely to King's Lynn, with a connection to National Route 51 , running east from Cambridge to Bury St Edmunds. The route will also significantly enhance access to the Vision area for communities bordering the Southern and Eastern boundaries of the Vision area, open up a network of footpaths and options for circular routes and provide cycle access for commuters into the north of Cambridge.

Progress to Date

The new Swaffham Bulbeck Lode Bridge and half mile cycle / bridleway across White Fen linking into the Docking Droveway was officially opened in July 2008.

Construction of a new crossing over Reach Lode, together with a cycleway across Burwell Fen is scheduled to be completed in May 2010. Plans are also being developed for a new crossing over Burwell Lode to be completed by 2012.
