Orthoptera
11 species have been recorded at Wicken Fen, although 2 of these have not been seen for many decades. Two new species for the Fen were seen in 1998, the Common Ground Hopper (Tetrix undulata) and Roesel's Bush Cricket (Metrioptera roeselii). Roesel's Bush Cricket has been expanding its range northwards across Britain, probably in response to climate change and warmer temperatures. The Common Ground Hopper may have been over looked, but it might be getting more abundant at Wicken as wetland is restored and new habitats are created. Photo: Long-winged Cone-Head |
